07 OCTOBER 2022: LEFT FOR DEAD
SPEED RUN: THE PARISH CAMPAIGN LEVEL
This month’s challenge was a particularly difficult one: a challenge to get to the end of the zombie-infested bridge in the final section of The Parish campaign on Left 4 Dead 2. Players took hold of shotguns, rifles, snipers and the mighty frying pan to shoot and bash their way through zombie bodies all whilst being pounced on, grabbed and charged at by Special infected. Players also had to survive a confrontation with the Tank, a hulking zombie that sent some on an unplanned flight off the side of the bridge.
IX Sqn’s Dean Bowditch was the first to take on the challenge, coming in relatively unscathed in third place with a respectable time of 5:44:00. Some more attempts were made, many with unfortunate ends at the hands of zombie hoardes, and some got painfully close to the end point but unable to get times to the board. ATC’s Emily Naylor then took on the bridge, setting a new bar at 3:26:19, which was promptly tackled by FSF’s Jordan Roberts who lowered the target time to 3:12:83.
A back and forth continued, with the fastest time being knocked down from 3 minutes into 2 minutes, until the final scores settled. After much bloodshed and zombie bodies, Jordan Roberts took the first place position with an impressive run in 2:15:54, with Emily Naylor coming in second with a time of 2:29:41.
Overall it was the most challenging event thus far, especially for players new to the game, but all participants put up a great fight; congratulations to Jordan! Thank you to the staff at the Barrel and Bean for hosting us and keeping us fed and watered.
