15 FEBRUARY 2023: F1 2020 - TIME TRIAL

TRACK: BRAZIL - INTERLAGOS

CAR: McLaren F1 Team MCL35

It was "LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO!" at the Club as the Lossie Phantoms held the second running of an F1 event as real world attention turned to the Formula 1 and how to stop Max Verstappen.

The event was a time trial around Interlagos in Brazil. The track every fan would love to see a race on every week as it never disappoints. The car chosen was the Mighty Great British McLaren MCL35, the same car patriotic British fans love to see from a year ago when the club hosted a Time Trial at Monza.

Dean Bowditch learnt lessons about line, length, apexes, consistency and most importantly - driving the fastest over one lap as he took victory in the event. The same event he finished 3rd place in last year at Monza proving to be king of the tracks with a time of 1:11.449.

Whilst he was the winner, he didn't have his own way throughout the event. Dean set the pace early on with a 1:12.767. However, Teyte Rombach had other plans. After an estimated 126 laps, he managed to beat the time set by Dean by 2 tenths of a second and hit the 1:12.565 mark.

Happy with his time he set down the controller. Dean returned to the mantle and just one lap later he spanked in a 1:11.798. Distraught at the minimalist effort demonstrated, Teyte took a knee and left the event, content that he was going to at least finish on the podium.

However, there were movers and shakers happening below him. Emily Naylor and John Miller were trading laps. Their times were getting more and more competitive and they pushed each other along. John took the lead of the event with a 1:11.707. Dean responded with the event winning time.

1st and 2nd were secure and now it was all about the battle for the final podium position. Teyte versus Emily. Emily was getting every single pointer thrown at her from those watching on as they lived every corner of her final lap. She set a 1:12.333 and with it 3rd place was secured and the chequered flag was waved.

What a shoot out! Crofty and Brundle missed out on some dynamite action and will have to settle with watching Max Verstappen winning by 5 minutes every single race.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and a big thank you to everyone who helped set up and deliver the entertainment for the evening.
